George Turnbull turns 100 years old today 17 June 2025. As far as is known George is the last sidecar rider/competitor from the Mount Gambier Scrambles circuit “Buck’s Hill.” George who served in the RAAF during WW2 making Oxygen for Pilots in the Northern Territory bought himself an Ariel Red Hunter locally and when the local Club was reformed and started up competitions George fitted a sidecar to go racing. He was quite successful with well known daredevil passenger John Wilkinson there and other local circuits. However, he bought a Lime Stone burning kiln at Allendale East and quit racing to operate the kiln. He greatly loved Ariels and was a long time supporter of the Australian Ariel Register. With a recently fitted Pacemaker he is now enjoying life again at Woodlands Grove Retirement Village Mount Gambier. Happy One Hundredth George.
