With all the electronic set up for our newspapers etc it is interesting to look back and see how our papers were set up in the 50s etc when they used lead blocks for illustrations. In a pile of Ariel parts I bought years ago I found this lead block used in an advertisement of some sort I suppose. I love it and often use it with a ink pad when I send out motorcycle correspondence in a letter – remember letters? They were in reverse of course and I have scanned it to show how it appeared. The second photo shows it reversed as an image to show how it appeared out of the press. It is about an inch thick so quite heavy.
Last Bucks Hill sidecarist turns 100
George Turnbull turns 100 years old today 17 June 2025. As far as is known George is the last sidecar rider/competitor from the Mount Gambier Scrambles circuit "Buck's Hill." George who served in the RAAF during WW2 making Oxygen for Pilots in the Northern Territory...
