Families were well represented in the Mount Gambier Motor Cycle and Light Car Club with the Fox, Walker, von Einem, and Hamilton names represented and also the Hellyers, brothers Ron, Ralph and Neville. Ron was a well known Solo and Sidecar rider with many successes, Ralph raced Solos and as passenger for Ron, whilst Neville was a social rider with the Club.
Ron’s wife Noela was the first female member of the Club and rode in the sidecar with Ron competing in the road trials. Later, their son Max competed on Solo and Sidecar in the Night Scrambles and Ralph’s son Chris rode Solos in those events too.
Reg Hellyer, father of Ron, Ralph and Nev, was a great supporter of the Club, sponsoring, hosting events at Hellyer’s Paddock, helping financially and with his truck, carting materials etc.
